Nanoconcepts and Simulations

Nanoconcepts represent self-contained instructional materials focusing on the key ideas in nanoscale science and engineering (NSE) and their applications. Each Nanoconcept contains a general user introduction, main concept, notes, images and/or simulations. A usage guide and connections to general science concepts is also provided to aid integration into the classroom.

Insights in Nanomedicine: Fighting Cancer with Gold Nanoshells

What you should have seen here was a Flash introduction to gold nanoshells.

On the following pages are many approaches to understanding how gold nanoshells have the potential to revolutionize cancer treatment.

» In Depth
Go in depth and read more about how nanoshells are used to image or target cancer cells in the body.
» Video - Fabrication of Gold Nanoshells
Watch a movie illustrating how gold nanoshells are made, target and kill cancer.
» Software Visualizations
Take a short class on gold nanoparticles. Try out different frequencies of laser light to see how gold nanoshells are activated.
» Learning Resources
Resources for incorporating the concepts found on the gold nanoshell pages in the classroom.
